Identify Disempowering Thoughts That Weaken You
Your thoughts create the world you live in. If you have powerful thoughts, they will strengthen you and provide a different reality. Disempowering thoughts do the opposite. Not only do they limit your thinking of what's possible in your life, but they can also weaken you physically.
The world you create
Maria and Omar started their new jobs at a large company on the same day. They were excited but curious about what the people would be like. David, who had worked there for 15 years, was assigned to train them.
Maria approached David and asked, "David, what are the people like here?"
David replied, "What were the people like at your previous job?"
Maria sighed. "It was a big company. Everyone was busy climbing the ladder and had little time for me. That's why I left."
David nodded. "I think you'll find it pretty much the same here."
Later, Omar asked David the same question. "David, what are the people like here?"
David responded, "What were the people like at your last job?"
Omar smiled. "It was a mid-sized company, but everyone was friendly and always willing to help. I'll miss them."
David smiled back. "You'll find it the same here."
As time passed, Maria struggled in a competitive environment while Omar developed good working relationships and thrived.
The moral is that what you expect and think is an energy that expands. Your thoughts can become your reality. Your thoughts create your world.
We are what we consume
The daily media we consume can influence our thoughts. Like unhealthy food, consuming negative information generates disempowering thoughts that can be harmful. If you watch the news and follow negative social media, you are constantly reaffirming what a horrible place this world is. If you identify only with strong views, you exclude connection with others. Investing time into positive, life-affirming consumption will make you feel better.
We are creators
The Tao is called the Great Mother: empty yet inexhaustible, it gives birth to infinite worlds. It is always present within you. You can use it any way you want.
- Tao Te Ching (Stephen Mitchell Version)
In the Tao Te Ching, Laozi promoted the idea of a profound connection between the nameless Tao and the manifest world, emphasizing that all creation, including ourselves, emerges from a formless energy field.
This creation process is an internal journey where thoughts, intentions, and actions shape the world around you. By embracing harmony, people can tap into the inner source of Tao energy and become mindful creators of their world.
“your life-and everyone else in the Universe is playing the part that you have assigned to them. You can literally script any life that you desire, and the Universe will deliver to you the people, places, and events just as you decide them to be. For you are the creator of your own experience-you have only to decide it and allow it to be.”
- Esther Hicks (Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires)
Abraham's teachings encourage practicing the idea of not focusing on what is missing but shifting your thoughts to "It's on its way."
Shift from disempowering thoughts
Disempowering thoughts: Shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, and pessimism.
Empowering thoughts: Courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, and optimism.
It's perfectly normal for a human, being in this world, to operate from these disempowering thoughts. Our thoughts have been shaped through experiences; for many, these have been extremely difficult.
- Never talk about what's missing in your life, only what you are creating.
- Keep an open mind for a life of pure possibility. When faced with an uncertain outcome, catch your thoughts and voice if they assume a negative outcome.
- When you or others say, "With my luck, it won't work out," ask if that is true.
- Observe, recognize, and journal disempowering thoughts. Try to shift them towards neutrality, willingness, love, and peace.
- When you see people struggling, empathy comes from recognizing yourself in all that you see. We are all unique but connected.
- If you're conflicted with someone, don't focus on any thought that is out of harmony with the relationship you would like to have.
Change your thoughts, and you change your world. Try to shift what you expect and think about. Expand your capacity towards power, and see how it impacts your life and others.
Wishing you well,
